    nature art & digital illustration

I had just been working on this post’s digital illustration over the weekend to tie into this little blurb that I’ve heard over the years regarding a book that is spiritually uplifting:

if you find a book (on spiritual virtues) that is falling a part, it is a evidence of a life that is not.”

Seems to be rather timely today when I found myself on my usual 3 hour stretch from DC back to the shore. As usual I was deep in thought trying to contemplate how the heck I’m ever going to accomplish the tasks I have in front of me. Then this song came on the radio by Natasha Bedingfield that hit me in the right way… continue reading…

    Lunch bag created by ¿Yh8?

Made with: colored pencil, sharpie, and lunch bag

They say that the definition of INSANITY is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results. That being said, retaliation can comparatively turn into a vicious cycle of INSANITY. If we retaliate upon those who have trespassed us in the same ways that they had trespassed against us – we are in no way different than them, for we have then allowed our standards to lower to their level.

We needn’t become the things we HATE. We can break the cycle of insanity by BEING THE EXAMPLE of what OTHERS SHOULD BECOME.

    Fun Theory Bottle Arcade

Here’s an odd fact — if we were all given an extra 15 minutes a day, we probably wouldn’t do something resourceful like recycle. Most of us would choose to fill it with some form of entertainment.
With a bit of support from Volkswagen, a group of creative folks over at  www.theFunTheory.com are coming up with ways we can have the best of both worlds. Watch the video… continue reading…

Got turned on to this video by a chap named Alex. It’s a clever little clip of a super awesome homeless dude’s ode to Menomena’s ‘Dirty Cartoons’.

Yhate recently learned of Jeff Soto over at Friendswelove.com. His work is incredibly vibrant yet dark in it’s nature. Jeff Soto is concerned with conflict of humans trying to harness, or take advantage of nature. His paintings exude this tension, as robotic creatures duel, organic tentacles and flower bouquets thrive, and black smog looms amidst floating, ominous skulls.

Definitely an creative that we appreciate.

    Yhate Lunch Bag 06

colored pencil, sharpie markers, and lunch bag

When ¿Yh8? was a kid, he often tinkered around with a board game that his parents played before they divorced. As an only child he had no opponents so he pretty much goofed around with the pieces. As he got older only few pieces remained. Eventually all recollection of the game had faded away from ¿Yh8?’s memory.

Decades later ¿Yh8? was in a public library with his Pokemon loving kid. There he happened upon an Anime DVD called “Hikaru No Go”. The DVD featured several episodes of a show that was all about a game called “GO”. The very same game that ¿Yh8? tinkered with as a child. All of his memories flashed through his mind and even some of the rules on how to play the game. Since the drawing style of the cartoon was in Anime, ¿Yh8? thought that perhaps his little one would like the show, while ¿Yh8? could enjoy seeing his old childhood game being played.

The video was a hit. ¿Yh8? and his kid loved the show so much that they ordered a board online and eventually traveled to enter a tournament. Unfortunately, ¿Yh8?’s kid caught on to the game so well, that ¿Yh8? was constantly pwned by the little guy.

    Yhate Third Friday Stencil

Stencil made with mud on concrete.

¿Yh8? would like to invite all of you creatives out there (that’s right YOU), to get up, get out, and PARTICIPATE!! Show the world your creative skills and impact your surrounding area with creativity.

Over the years ¿Yh8? has capitalized on opportunities to inflict HATE FREE visuals onto the eyes of spectators at social events (as seen 1:01 minutes into the below vid). It is part of an ongoing effort of promoting social unity and diversity through creativity.

For years the downtown area of Salisbury, MD has been a home of beautiful buildings complete with a wonderfully brick paved plaza and aesthetically arranged flower pots. There are even abundant tables, benches, and stoops available for people to read, eat or socialize. Within about a 1 mile radius this city also has a large park, river walkway, zoo, and a harbor, all at the tip of the Wicomico River.

Upon reading this you would think this area would be bustling with pedestrians, vendors and volumes of activities. As hard to believe as it is, with the exception of one annual festival, there is rarely a person in sight.

More recently an event has been taking place every month in hopes that this will soon change. The event is called “Third Friday” and for possibly over a year now it has been growing every month. As the name would imply, every third Friday of each month, a small band of dedicated organizers invite artists and musicians to come out to display or play. It is a great opportunity for artisans introduce their creativity to the public, and for the public to be entertainment and discover new creations.

The best part of the whole thing is the freeness of it. Currently there are no charges or fees for the artists and no permits required. Because most of the area is public space, the people are able to walk freely without the expense of entry fees.

    The Promise is FREEDOM

Those of you who know what this is about, know that it represents a journey to pure freedom. A freedom that is capable of removing the compulsion to live within self inflicted HATE. Within the circle reads the “Serenity Prayer”. This is a prayer that is has been passed down through the years to a vast number of peoples in hopes that it’s words may start one’s journey into a new way of life. When you stop to think of it’s simple message, you may find that contains all of the necessary ingredients to reach a level of peace, the ability to let go, the strength to endure the storm, and the knowledge to understand life on it’s own terms.

God, grant me the serentity, to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference”
